Deacon has an inbuilt snootiness detector and a hatred of the pretension and exclusivity that can make the fashion world so alienating. "People," he says, "should just get over themselves."
"I think people are really hard on people - unnecessarily so. Nobody's perfect and I think everybody would like the chance to show another side."
Following his residency in our LiveStudio at the end of June, the process film charting Giles Deacon creating his own idiosyncratic interpretation of Le Smoking is now online. Although we titled our series after the storied couture confections of Yves Saint Laurent's Left Bank chic, Deacon looked west - way west - to the fringed and embroidered suits crafted by famed rodeo tailor Nudie Cohn. His 'Silver Nudie' is an homage to country-and-western's star suiter, fittingly fringed and shimmering in silver leather - a silver counterpart to the infamous $10,000 gold lamé number Nudie rustled up for Elvis Presley, perhaps? Our process charts the method behind this madness, with Deacon & Co. not only painstakingly crafting their tuxedo, but also papering our studio walls in silver foil for a decor part Warhol Superstar, part Superman.
